Easy to set up, clean in appearance and delightfully uncomplicated, it offers all the mechanical necessities such as a carbon pulley cage, ceramic pulley bearings, and anodized alloy artfully blended with proprietary electronic advancements to deliver a wireless shifting wonder.
The derailleur itself receives communications via SRAM’s AIREA network signal from eTap shifters. In addition to Airea, the rear derailleur contains an ANT+ radio for sending gear selection and battery life information to head units, provided your computer has the programming to read the signal. Additionally, this derailleur sports a removable, rechargeable battery, which delivers approximately 1000+ km (620 miles) of riding (about a full month of average cycling distance). Recharge from full depletion takes approx 45 minutes per battery, and remaining battery charge-levels are displayed with colour-coded LEDs.
For those wanting to run a 1x setup, or those who simply want to increase their gear range, SRAM's new eTap WiFLi rear derailleur accommodates rear cassettes up to 32 teeth. Please note that you’ll need eTap levers to shift this derailleur, and while it is designed to handle cassettes with 26- and 28-tooth largest cogs, it does work best with cassettes that have 30- and 32-teeth largest cogs. Pairing is as simple as working an Apple TV, and all elements, when properly set up will work with the same functionality as a cabled product. Step into the future of cycling. • Utilising 128-bit rolling encryption, eTap shift signals are transmitted and received in accordance with SRAM’s proprietary wireless protocol known as AIREA. Each time an eTap groupset is paired, a new encryption code is generated and assigned to the components in this group to ensure complete shifting security. Only one set of shifters can be paired to a system. Both derailleurs have a mechanical disconnect to prevent crash damage and protect their internals: The derailleur will give way in an impact, then returns to its original position.
• All of the underlying tech in the new SRAM RED® eTap groupset, such as wireless shifting, advanced battery power management, and mechatronics technologies, are meant to serve one ultimate purpose: to facilitate the most intuitive and consistent shifting available. This shift logic is called eTap. Right lever makes it harder, left lever makes it easier, both levers shift the front derailleur. Simple, unmistakable, and intuitive.
Exact Actuation Technology
• Exact Actuation™ provides precise gear selections. When SRAM launched their road technology from scratch they reapplied their MTB proven SRAM 1:1 actuation ratio (shifter cable travel : derailleur movement) for 10 speed rear shifting. EA Technology helps to simplify/stabilize the uneasy act of balancing rear derailleur hanger design, tight cog spacing and exact cable tension. The result: the easiest index shifting system to set up and it stays that way.
