How to choose a bike lock
No lock is unbreakable, but a good one makes your bike harder to steal than the next. Here's how to choose.
D-locks
Hardened steel and hard to cut. The go-to for city commuters.
Chain locks
Flexible enough for posts and wide racks. Heavy chains suit e-bikes and long stays.
Folding locks
Steel bars that fold into a frame holster, with more reach than a D-lock.
Cable locks
Light and quick for short stops, but easily cut. Best as a second lock.
Security ratings
Sold Secure ratings (Bronze to Diamond) show how long a lock resists attack. Spend more for pricier bikes.
Lock it right
Lock the frame to something solid, fill the lock's space and park in busy, well-lit spots.
Add an alarm or GPS tracker for extra protection.
