Because tyre selection is incredibly important in cyclo-cross the Chicane Pro Series is definitely the one to choose when it's vital to have a tyre that performs at top level in dry, grassy, dusty or icy conditions. Using input from professional riders Challenge have come up with great features like the file tread running down the centre which offers a nice combination of grip and low rolling resistance as long as conditions remain dry. In addition to this, the shoulders receive a much more aggressive tread pattern that helps the Chicane maintain functionality and traction when cornering. These great features are combined with an incredibly supple 300 TPI tubular casing that can be run down to 23 PSI for maximum contact patch and grip. The great thing about this hand-made tyre is that being an open tubular it can be installed on a rim for clinchers with inner tube without having to fuss with rim glues and time consuming clean-ups' afterwards. Whether you're a Pro or just a hard core enthusiast, Chicane is the tyre you need.
What is an Open Tubular?
The Open Tubular is constructed using the same process, casing and tread materials as a standard tubular. The difference is that instead of sewing the casing together (closed), the sides of the tubular casing are folded around Aramid fibre cords to produce beads. This 'open' design performs like a tubular, yet conveniently mounts like a standard clincher tyre. If combined with a latex inner tube the ride becomes even closer to that of a tubular, offering excellent traction and cornering, low rolling resistance and shock absorption.
