The ultimate grip machine for DH and Enduro.
The Maxxis Assegai immediately became the new benchmark tyre when it was introduced in 2018. The 3-2-3 tread block pattern has become the synonymous with dependable grip in all conditions. The aggressive tread pattern is popular anywhere with looser soil or sand due to its ability to push into corners and find grip where other tyres fall short.
Since its release the Assegai has become an often copied pattern, and this style of tyre with tall and widely spaced tread knobs is now the go-to pattern for gravity focused riders looking for reliable grip in most conditions.
Characteristics: Unbelievable grip in all conditions, very predictable, and confidence-inspiring. Rolls quite slow compared to DHR or DHF. Mostly suitable for a front tyre as it’s slow rolling and doesn’t perform as well under braking on the rear due to the smaller tread blocks which are best suited to biting into soil under cornering load.
Suitable Terrain: Loose, wet, rocky, rooty – thrives in challenging conditions. Think the steep, tech trails such as World Cup at Bright or Cairns. Also suitable in sandy soil like that around Sydney.
Riding Style: DH and Enduro

- Assegai Front / DHR II Rear: DH and Enduro rider go-to. Suitable for elite level riders and casual riders. Predictable cornering performance, great braking and easy to shralp.
- High Roller III Front / Assegai Rear: This is an emerging choice for some DH riders and has been popular recently on the elite DH circuit. Mostly suitable for very wet and steep trails.
- Assegai Front / Dissector Rear: DH and Enduro riders chasing a faster rolling option compared to the grippier and more aggressive DHR II rear.
